About Us
In the early 20th century, Adelaide builder Georg Bernhard (Ben) Otto was constructing nearly a house a week, prompting him to establish a building supply business to support demand. Many of his homes still stand across Adelaide’s eastern suburbs today. After his passing at just 42, the business was carried on by his son, Max Otto.
Max led Otto’s Timber, Joinery and Hardware for over 50 years, building a strong reputation for quality and offering an extensive range of timbers. In 2004, his son Ken Otto continued the family legacy. During this period, Otto's manufactured many one-off heritage jobs including mouldings, skirtings, windows, and doors for a variety of projects, including the Adelaide Casino, Adelaide Town Hall, Old Parliament House, and Adelaide Stock Exchange.
Re-established in 2022 as Otto Timber, the business is now operated by fourth-generation timber merchant and joiner Nathan Otto. Nathan continues a proud tradition of premium timber, custom joinery, and trusted service across Adelaide​

Wood Machining
We offer a full range of machining services, including thicknessing, resizing, sanding, precision docking, and spindle work. Using specialised equipment and attention to detail, we ensure accurate, high-quality results for every project.

Please note, we generally only offer wood machining services for timber purchased from us. We do not offer wood machining services for reclaimed or recycled timber.

We also recognise the importance of responsible sourcing. Many hardwood species take decades to mature, making large-scale plantation growth impractical. That’s why we only supply timber harvested sustainably, in accordance with strict Australian standards for responsible forestry and trade.
