ABOUT US

Supplying Adelaide with quality timber for over 100 years...

In the early 20th century, prominent Adelaide-based builder Georg Bernhard (Ben) Otto was building approximately one house every week. To keep up with this demand, he set up a building supply company to support his rapidly growing business. Many of Ben's houses can still be found throughout the eastern suburbs of Adelaide today. Sadly, Ben died at just 42, leaving the business to his son, Max Otto.

Following in his father's footsteps, Max ran Otto's Timber, Joinery and Hardware for over 50 years. Throughout this time he forged a name for Otto's throughout Adelaide as the place to go for quality timbers. At one time, Otto's had over 100 species of timber to choose from!

In 2004, Max's son Ken Otto took over the business, continuing the family legacy. Ken ran the business until the closure of their historic Stepney site in late 2020. Ken's sons Nathan and Jason also worked for the family business as a joinery estimator and timber machinist, respectively. During this period, Otto's manufactured many one-off heritage jobs including mouldings, skirtings, windows, and doors for a variety of projects, including the Adelaide Casino, Adelaide Town Hall, Old Parliament House, and Adelaide Stock Exchange.

In 2022, after a brief hiatus, Otto's Timber, Joinery and Hardware was relocated and renamed 'Otto Timber'. Otto Timber is currently owned and operated by Nathan Otto, a fourth-generation timber merchant. Otto Timber continues to supply premium quality timber and friendly service to customers across Adelaide.
